The Work Release program enables those convicted of non-violent crimes to keep their jobs and serve their time in jail at night and on weekends.

Current guidelines for the Work Release program are:

  1. Upon arrival to the jail to begin sentence, participants are required to submit a copy of the Work Release Commitment Order from the court.  Failure to bring in your commitment order may cause you to be refused admission to the jail and/or admission to the Work Release program until you commitment order can be verified.
  2. Participants are required to submit the first week work release fee ($18.00 per day, $126.00 per week, cash or money order) at the time of incarceration and each subsequent week thereafter, in advance, unless otherwise stated on the commitment order.
  3. You are required to bring a padlock for you locker.  If you do not bring you own lock, you will be required to purchase a lock for $5.00.  The Livingston County Sheriff/Jail will not be responsible for any missing, lost or stolen valuables while you are incarcerated.
  4. Participants will be allowed to park their vehicles in the parking lot directly south of the Sheriff Department.
  5. No money except work release fees and deposits into the inmate trust fund will be allowed.
  6. No personal property will be allowed, except approved educational material, work clothes and a wallet.  A T-shirt and underwear must be worn by all work release inmates (male and female). All hygiene items must be purchased through the jail commissary, which is available once a week.
  7. Do not bring or leave beverage or food containers of any kind into the jail or onto county property.
  8. There will be no laundering of personal clothing at the jail.  Participants must handle laundry during out-of-jail time.
  9. Due to the fact that the Livingston County Jail is a nonsmoking facility, any tobacco products brought in will be confiscated and destroyed.
  10. There will be no use of alcohol or illicit drugs of any type.  Participants are subject to random testing if suspected of being under the influence of drug use or alcohol.
  11. The Livingston County Jail will have the discretion of verifying employment periodically throughout the work release sentence.
  12. Participants are not to receive or send any mail or packages from the Livingston County Jail.
  13. There will be no visitation during participation in the Work Release Program, however, inmates sentenced in excess of ten days will be afforded regular visitation rights.  Female visiting hours will be on Sunday between 10:00 AM and Noon and Male visiting hours will be on Friday 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
  14. Any violation of the Livingston County Jail rules, Work Release Program Guidelines or any rules or stipulations ordered by the Court, may result in removal from the program, completion of sentence with straight jail time and loss of good time.  Any violation of these rules will be reported back to the original sentencing court.
  15. Call (517) 546-2445, extension 237 or 238 with any further questions regarding the Work Release Program.
