The Community Work program is an alternative sentence when you are convicted
of a non-violent crime that you would normally receive jail time for.
Because this is an alternative sentencing program if the participant failure to
complete the program as directed by the court a warrant will be issued for your
arrest, you will be picked up sometimes at home, sometimes at work but
eventually you will stand back before the judge that sentenced you where he
(with very few exceptions) will change your sentence to straight jail time.
The following rules apply when you are sentenced under this program:
- You must contact the Community Work Program office within 72 hours from
sentencing at (517) 546-2446. You must call Monday through Friday
between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to schedule your work days.
- You will be required to pay a Community Work Program fee of $35.00 (no
personal checks accepted)
- The normal work hours are from 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. You will
not be allowed to leave early. The Community Work Office is located at
300 South Highlander Way, Howell, MI. 48843
- You are not allowed to cancel scheduled workdays. Only a Doctor's
written excuse will be honored for missing work.
- It is your responsibility to wear proper work attire and dress for adverse
weather. An example: No halter tops, no shorts or cutoffs, etc... Hard
sole shoes are recommended.
- Bring your lunch! You will not be permitted to leave the worksite.
- You are to arrange you own proper legal transportation.
- Failure to report as scheduled will result in a violation.
- If you are in violation of any of these terms, you will be reviewed by the
court and could serve the remainder of you un-worked days in the Livingston
County Jail.
