My wife and I are new to the lake as home owners although we have rented her fathers place on the lake for the past couple of years. I have degrees in both biology and engineering and am very reluctant to upset the natural ecology of the lake. I strongly support the protection of the lake and water quality. Where can I find more information on the proposed actions? Other concerns: Weed harvesting results in (some) floating debris that tend to accumulate along the north and east shores especially in the bay areas, they also are unattractive as the float about the lake. Chemical treatment is bound to have an impact on the food chain that supports the good fishing in the lake. We do not want to disturb the fishing or promote the growth of unwanted species. It is very difficult to predict the consequences of man-made chemicals on our fragile aquatic ecosystem. We do not want to make the water unsafe or uninviting to swimmers. The clear waters and abundant fish are the key attraction to this area and must be maintained.

I was surfing ML&SA member websites and happened upon yours. I was curious as to the origin of Chemung recalling another much longer name I used in a recent ML&SA presentation at the 2005 Annual Meeting (*) I did learn that ther's a Chemung CO in NY and that "Chemung" means Chemung means "Place of the big horn (for the mammouth tusks found there. http://www.news.cornell.edu/Chronicle/99/10.14.99/mammoth.html (*)Lake Chargoggagoggmanchaugga- goggchaubunagungamaugg (*).
